The House on Stilts

This painting was inspired by the movie Pirates of the Caribbean. The scene when the Kraken is released on the Black Pearl made me want to paint something similar. I enjoy painting water scenes from the side perspective because you can see what’s going on underneath the ocean surface. The house is inspired by a lighthouse on stilts in the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland. The sky has been copper leafed so the light source can follow the viewer at any angle.
